This says Americans don't trust their government with a blank check, nothing more. That poll is meaningless without a specific policy proposal.

I am always opposed to taxing people directly. Countries generally collect a lot of tax money and then put it to use. $10 per person in a 300M country is $3B: while not peanuts, USA government has spent 4.45 trillion in FY2019. Clearly similar gains could be achieved by reprioritizing expenditure elsewhere.

Is the opposition rate the same?

70% of the cause of climate change comes from Container ships and the US Military. One can be regulated and the other we have direct control over. How about using that giant existing budget the US Military gets and actually switching those vehicles over to electric or hydrogen. No additional funds needed by citizens. Stop socializing losses for companies.

People won't pay for the abstract "to combat climate change". Present some concrete ideas and more people, I believe, would be willing to contribute.

I agree, but how do you explain opposition to gasoline taxes? That seems like the most reasonable kind of taxes that most closely taxes those who use a service and produce carbon? Generally these are used for road maintenance

Because it's yet again taxing the little guys barely making rent... People want to see real accountability! Can I go to work without a gas car when I live 20miles away and can't afford a Tesla?

If we were to offer people real solution with a real plan, not just taxes so that we have funds to fight the fight in very abstract ways, I'd bet you'd garner more support.
